Built for HIPAA from the ground up
The platforms therapists can safely use with clients are the ones that meet the full standard — technical, administrative, and physical — not just “we use encryption.” Here is what Unblend provides:
Business Associate Agreement
A signed BAA is included with every Provider plan. We execute it before any PHI is stored.
Encryption everywhere
AES-256 at rest, TLS 1.2+ in transit. Voice data, Parts Maps, and therapy notes are never stored in plaintext.
Role-based access
Clinicians access only their assigned clients. Practice admins manage seats but cannot read clinical content without explicit grant.
Audit logging
Every access event is recorded and available to your practice on request for compliance audits.
US-based infrastructure
Data stored on HIPAA-eligible cloud services in U.S. data centers. No data movement outside the compliance boundary.
Practice-level segregation
Each practice's data is logically isolated. Your clients' records are never mixed with another practice's.

How Unblend fits alongside other AI tools for therapists
Most “HIPAA-compliant AI therapy” platforms solve a single, very specific problem: documentation. Unblend is in a different category.
| Tool | What it does | Who uses it |
|---|---|---|
| Unblend | Between-session support for the client — voice-based Parts work, Signal Report, IFS-aligned reflection. | Therapist & client together |
| Upheal | Session recording, automated progress notes, clinical document drafting. | Therapist only |
| Blueprint | AI progress notes, measurement-based care tools, clinical summaries. | Therapist only |
| Supanote | Automated SOAP / DAP notes from session recordings. | Therapist only |
| Reframe Practice | AI-generated therapy worksheets with zero data retention. | Therapist only |
You can use Unblend alongside any documentation tool. Documentation tools compress your notes workflow. Unblend compresses the gap between sessions — the 6 days and 23 hours of the week you aren't in the room. For the client-facing overview, see the IFS therapy app page. For the broader strategic question of where AI belongs in care, read AI vs human therapy.
Not a mood tracker. Not a generic chatbot.
Unblend is built around the actual between-session IFS workflow: capture the moment, name the Part, and turn the pattern into something useful for you and your therapist.
HIPAA-compliant when used with your therapist
Built for therapy-adjacent data, signed BAAs, and privacy expectations around PHI, Parts Maps, voice notes, and check-ins.
Voice and text check-ins
Speak when a Part is close to the surface, or write when words need more space. Either way, the moment becomes reviewable.
IFS-informed Parts Cards
Conversations surface named Parts, jobs, themes, and patterns so your internal system becomes easier to understand over time.
Signal Report over time
Check-ins accumulate into a living map of recurring Parts, triggers, and themes you can bring back to therapy.
Simple, transparent pricing
One price covers the whole practice — no per-seat surprises, no per-client fees. For the full individual-vs-provider breakdown, see Unblend pricing.

Frequently asked questions
Is Unblend HIPAA compliant?
Yes. Unblend's Provider plan is built as a HIPAA-compliant platform. We sign a Business Associate Agreement (BAA) with every provider before PHI is stored or transmitted. Your clients' data — therapy notes, Parts Maps, session recordings, and voice data — is encrypted in transit and at rest, with role-based access controls and audit logging.
Do you sign a Business Associate Agreement (BAA)?
Yes. A signed BAA is included with every Provider plan at no extra cost. This is required under HIPAA whenever a Covered Entity (your practice) uses a Business Associate (Unblend) to create, receive, maintain, or transmit PHI. Contact us after sign-up to execute the BAA before your first client session.
Where is client data stored?
Client PHI is stored on HIPAA-eligible cloud infrastructure in U.S. data centers, with encryption at rest (AES-256) and in transit (TLS 1.2+). Data is logically segregated per practice, and access is restricted to the specific therapists and administrative staff you authorise.
Who can access my clients' Parts Maps and session data?
You and the specific clinicians you authorise inside your practice, plus each client for their own data. Unblend engineers cannot read clinical content. All access is recorded in an audit log you can review on request.
How is Unblend different from Upheal, Blueprint, or Supanote?
Tools like Upheal, Blueprint, Supanote, and Reframe Practice automate your documentation workflow — generating progress notes, clinical summaries, or worksheets. Unblend is the inverse: it supports your client's ongoing work between sessions (voice-based Parts check-ins, practice prompts, Signal Reports you can see with consent). You can use both — an AI notes tool for your documentation plus Unblend for client support.
Does Unblend replace therapy?
No. Unblend is explicitly scaffolding between sessions; we do not provide clinical care, make diagnoses, or handle crises. We communicate this directly to clients on the platform and route to appropriate crisis resources (988 in the US) when indicated.
What therapy modalities does Unblend support?
Unblend's core support model is IFS-aligned (Internal Family Systems), reflecting the clinical background of our team. The platform also works alongside CBT, somatic, and eclectic approaches. We publish the research and reasoning behind our modality choices at /ai-mental-health.
What does the Provider plan cost?
The Provider plan is $250/month, includes 10 therapist seats, HIPAA-compliant infrastructure with a signed BAA, professional voice cloning, multi-language support (Spanish, Japanese, and more), Signal Report with Parts Map, and a client management dashboard. No credit card required to start; cancel anytime.
How do I get started?
Sign up at app.unblend.me/signup?plan=professional, complete the BAA execution step, invite your clinicians, and share the client-facing Unblend link with the clients you want to support between sessions. No integration setup required to begin.
